A man who tried to save his friend from an apartment fire in Winter Haven has died.
Joseph Hernandez, 56, ran into the burning building on Snively Avenue on Saturday night to rescue his neighbor.
That man did not make it out alive.
Polk County Fire Rescue has not identified a cause of the fire yet, but the people who live in the building say the apartment where the fire started had an oxygen tank.
The fire destroyed every apartment in the front of the building.
Apartments in the back sustained heavy water damage.
No one else was injured in the blaze, but a dozen other residents had to find somewhere else to stay.
At this point it's not clear if the building can be saved.
