Hundreds of people attended a rally on Friday to remember a 33-year-old man killed in east Atlanta.

Patrick Cotrona was shot and killed during an armed robbery as he walked home in East Atlanta Village early Sunday morning.

Investigators believe that there is a strong possibility Cotrona's murder is connected to two armed robberies that occurred in Reynoldstown that same night.

Authorities have released a sketch of a suspect in an armed robbery on Kirkwood Avenue.  In that crime, a gunman stole a couple's wallets and phones.

Minutes earlier, a man was robbed at gunpoint and his cell phone was taken. Police have released surveillance footage from that robbery.

In all, investigators believe five crimes could be connected.

Cotrona was a Georgia Tech graduate and video game programmer.

"He was just a guy who lived in the neighborhood just like you and who was shot down and killed," said Kate Cotrona Crumm, Patrick Cotrona's sister. "This could have been you. If you don't want it to be you, then you need to step up and start protecting yourselves and demanding that you are protected by your government."

At Friday night's vigil, neighbors left messages of hope scribbled on paper bags that were illuminated by candles.

The notes of condolence were penned by neighbors shaken by the violence.

Hundreds rallied for change, hoping that Cotrona's death will make a difference in every Atlanta neighborhood.

Nearby, police patrolled the East Atlanta Village and passed out reward fliers for information leading to an arrest.
