Most people would probably admit to doing it once or twice – faking an illness to miss work or school.
But a first grade teacher at Laurel Elementary in Polk County is in big trouble for it, and she may lose her job.
Ashley Barker admitted to faking it when she told school officials she was deathly ill. She took it to the extreme, officials say. She even told them her father was dying.
We're told she sent her boss the excuses up to 120 times during the past year.
"It was horrible," parent Mellissci Spellman said. "First of all, to take advantage of the school board's money – they were paying her to come to work and do a job."
The school district recommended she should be fired. Administrators will hold a meeting within the next few weeks.
There are reports that Barker has a lawyer and will fight any termination.
