Is it really a sale?

TAMPA (FOX 13) -

You can't miss it this weekend -- there are sales everywhere. Memorial Day markdowns are posted on everything from clothes to cars to furniture.

"We have actually great deals right now on appliances and home theaters because that's really what goes around for Memorial Day," said Dan Vileno of Best Buy.

Kayla Veal saw the signs and wonders, is it always a real deal?

"There are a lot of them look like sales, but they aren't always. Like a regular bag of chips might be $5 and they'll say two for $10," she said.

Veal is on to something. A Sears ad offers a washer dryer set for $579. Compare that to last Black Friday and you'll see the same model sells for $51 more this Memorial Day.

"You absolutely have to do research. In a price war, your best ammunition, your best weapon, is to have a smart phone. Whatever it is you're buying, look it up. Something as simple as a Google search will tell you if it's real or if there's hype behind the bargain," said FOX13 Consumer Reporter Chris Chmura.
