Durant falls to Lake Brantley in 8A state title game

FORT MYERS (FOX 13) -

Lake Brantley jumped out to an early lead and never allowed Tyler Danish the opportunity to shut them down as they topped Durant 8-3 in the 8A state title game Saturday night.

Danish, who hadn't allowed an earned run all season, pitched just two-thirds of an inning, the seventh, and went 0-4 at the plate. Danish made the final out of the game, a fly out to left, in what will be his final at-bat in a Durant uniform.

Chaz Fowler started for the Cougars, with the intention of Danish coming on in relief, but the Patriots jumped out to a lead, scoring two runs in the first. They then added four more in the third which proved to be too much for Durant to overcome.

The Cougars, who had their best season in school history and were looking to cap it with their first baseball state title in school history, came up just short.

Bryce Tucker pitched a complete game for Lake Brantley, which captured its fourth baseball state title.
