A 79-year-old double amputee was rescued from drowning Friday night after his wheelchair rolled into a pond.
Robert Lunay was in his electric wheelchair overlooking the pond behind the Disabled American Veterans building on 37th Street North in Lealman.
Somehow the wheelchair slipped and rolled into the water.
Robert Fields and Norman Steers heard Lunay calling for help. They ran over to the pond, jumped in and kept him from drowning.
Many people called 911 and by the time rescue crews arrived, Lunay was being held up in the water by Fields and Steers.
Luckily, Lunay was not injured and is resting at home.
