Teen seeks EMT who helped save her 13 years ago

JASPER COUNTY, Ga. -

A Jasper County teenager is trying to find a paramedic who saved her life 13 years ago.

Alyssa Haskew was six years old at the time and lived in Spalding County when the accident occurred.

"My youngest son and a little boy across the street had knocked the car out of gear and my daughter opened the door and tried to stop it and it drug her underneath," said Melissa Coursey, Alyssa's daughter.

Haskew still has a scar from the incident. She said that she doesn't remember the doctor or nurses who helped her, but she still calls the EMT her hero. He stayed with her all night at the hospital, until 400 stitches later, he knew that she'd be OK.

"That has stuck in my child's mind all her life. And all she's ever wanted to is be reunited with this man and thank him for saving her life," Coursey said.

Through the years, they've unsuccessfully tried to find him.

The accident happened in Griffin in July of 2000, not far from Atlanta Motor Speedway. The family knows Scott, the EMT, worked for Spalding County at the time, but they don't know his last name.

"He stayed there with me, he held my hand when they sewed up my face," said Haskew.

Alyssa just graduated from high school and her mom says reuniting them would be her daughter's favorite graduation gift.

"I want to see her reunited with the man that she's always called her hero since she was little bitty," Coursey said. "I would like to see him and tell him thank you for saving my daughter's life, because if it weren't for him I wouldn't have her today."

Melissa Coursey says she's even tried calling Spalding County EMT, but still had no luck.
