Mother of Man Beaten By Skateboarders Makes 'Healing' Plea

Posted: Updated:
Huntington Beach, CA -

Ann Belles is calling for healing in her Huntington Beach community after her son was nearly beaten to death. The 25-year old man beaten by a mob of skateboarders is now able to talk and Viktor Silcock may be released from the hospital this week.

His surgeon says he's making a remarkable recovery given that he was nearly beaten to death on Friday. Neurosurgeon Daniel Yanni, of UCI Medical Center, says three out of four with such injuries don't make it. Silcock will still face a year of rehab and perhaps permanent brain damage. Part of his skull was removed to relieve brain swelling. His mother, Ann Belles, says she only understood the extent of his injuries when the bandages came off today.

The attack happened Friday night at a coin laundry where a mob of skateboarders chased Silcock. Reports are he went to his girlfriend's aid after she intervened in a fight at a skate park.

We asked Huntington Beach Police about assertions Silcock played role in the attack. Police tell me, a this time, the only people being charged are four boys ages 14 to 16. They're being held on attempted murder charges. Police were quick to confirm the teens were already on probation.

Silcock's mom has issued a call for healing. Her spirit may come as little surprise. Her family is well known in Huntington Beach and the world of adoption.  She adopted Viktor and 58 other boys, all with special needs. Fox 11 showcased the family several times and they've appeared on 60-Minutes. Belles is hoping she can come together with the families of the attackers to prevent his from happening to anyone else.  She is saddened by the future prospects of the four teenagers now in custody.
