What started as a fight at Hollywood Nites on North Howard early Saturday morning ended in gunfire, leaving one man injured and another dead.
Wayne Thomas Lanier, 21, of Tampa was shot and eventually died at Tampa General Hospital.
"The family's taking it hard right now," said family spokesman Ali Muhammad.
Omar Bacon, 26, was also hit but he survived the attack.
Friends and family say Lanier wasn't someone who got into trouble.
"He was very much a silent person, wasn't never involved in no real altercations with anyone," said Muhammad.
Lanier was a 2011 graduate of Blake High School in Tampa and very much an athlete.
"Wayne was an athletic, quiet guy," said Muhammad.
Police say a fight started inside the club just after 2 a.m. Saturday morning.
Club security broke up the altercation and forced everyone out the club, that's when investigators say shots were fired.
At this point Tampa police have not named a suspect in this case.
"We're just calling for a plea for the suspect to turn himself in," said Muhammad.
If that doesn't happen the family of Wayne Lanier is asking the community for help.
"Someone who knows what happened please report to the police," said Muhammad.
Family members say Lanier was going to be a father soon.
Now, because of an unknown shooter, his unborn son will never meet his dad.
"It's time to stop the violence, it's time to come together and bring this community together in unity instead of negative things that bring negative results," said Muhammad.
