Two Bay Area suspects weren't quite slippery enough to pull off a fast-food grease heist, apparently.
Leroy Shorter, 23, and Dargel Exposito, 28, have been charged with burglary after police say a Wendy's manager spotted them sucking grease from the restaurant on S. Tamiami Trail early Wednesday morning.
The men were allegedly extracting used fryer and cooking grease from the storage and extraction system attached to the inside of the restaurant. When he noticed the men were not wearing the normal uniform and were acting unusual, the manager called police.
When officers caught up with the big white box truck, they say they found four 250-gallon grease tanks attached to a gasoline-powered portable sump pump.
Police believe the men were stealing the used cooking and fryer grease from restaurants around the Bay Area. This "yellow grease" is a valuable commodity and can be recycled to make bio-fuel, detectives said.
