NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Police have re-captured a handcuffed suspect that had given officers the slip Monday morning, authorities said.

Vincens Vuktilaj, 18, had escaped from detectives while they were leading him away from his building on St. Nicholas Avenue at about 10:15 a.m. after they had arrested him on a grand larceny charge, police said.

Vuktilaj ran underground into the subway system.

That prompted a massive manhunt that caused a mess with subway service. The NYPD asked the MTA to suspend service as officers entered tunnels to look for Vuktilaj.

The A, B, C and D lines were all affected for several hours.

Cops found Vuktilaj as he tried to leave a subway station at West 135th Street and St. Nicholas Avenue at about 3:30 p.m., police said. He was still in handcuffs.

Vuktilaj is accused of stealing jewelry from several women in April. He was arrested Friday, arraigned, and released over the weekend. Detectives came to his home Monday to re-arrest him on other charges.

No one was hurt in the manhunt, police said.

Charges against Vuktilaj are pending.

New York City is exploring ways to curb the speed of taxis. The Taxi and Limousine Commission this week issued a request for information on "anti speeding vehicle technologies."  The measures include devices that can intervene when drivers exceed posted speeds and "advisory systems" that can sound alarms when reckless driving is detected.

Robert De Niro says Tribeca Film Festival is his passion

Robert De Niro is a family man, a filmmaker, an entrepreneur and one of my favorite actors of all time. He's also a co-founder of the Tribeca Film Festival, which has more to see than ever before. De Niro wears just as many hats on screen as he does in real life. The father of six starred in six films last year, owns four restaurants and a hotel, and still finds time each spring for the Tribeca Film Festival, Lower Manhattan's annual cinematic showcase.
