A student at Tarpon Springs High School was arrested Monday and charged with bringing a gun to school.
The school's resource officer got a tip, and removed the 16-year-old boy from class to question him, police said.
The teenager admitted to having the gun, according to the Tarpon Springs Police Department.
It had three rounds in the magazine, but no bullet in the chamber of the gun, police said in a media release.
The student said he was carrying it because of troubles he was having with other students off-campus.
He told investigators that he found the gun in some bushes near the school; police say the serial number had been removed.
The student is charged with possessing a firearm on school grounds and carrying a concealed firearm. Both are felony charges.
Police say no threats were made at the school, and no classes were disrupted.
