TAMPA (FOX 13) -

A firefighter was hurt while putting out a house fire in Tampa Saturday morning.

The fire started around 11 a.m., on north 54th street.

Tampa Fire and Rescue says 60 year-old Ruby Smith was smoking in bed when the fire started. She tried to use buckets of water to douse the flames, but the fire continued to grow.

She managed to get out of the house and call 9-1-1.

Once firefighters arrived they were able to get it under control in about ten minutes.

One firefighter was injured battling the blaze. He was taken to Tampa General Hospital and is expected to be okay.

Investigators say the fire did about $21,000 in damage.
