The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office released surveillance video Friday of a violent robbery of a 7-11 convenience store in Tampa and asked the public to help them identify the suspects.
Deputies said six men, all wearing white t-shirts and dark hats, were involved in the robbery.
One suspect grabbed the store clerk and forced him behind the counter to open the register while several other suspects acted as lookouts. The robbers stole cash and cigarettes then ran away.
"It's a matter of in and out in just minutes," said Detective Larry McKinnon. "These are the type of robberies that you don't see very often. Typically there are one, maybe two people. This one had six."
Despite the suspects' similar attire, McKinnon doesn't believe they're affiliated with a gang, but he admitted the outfits will make it more difficult to identify the criminals.
"Anytime they're organized like this it shows planning and if they've planned one then they'll probably plan two," he said.
The violent nature of the crime left the community, many of whom shop at the 7-11 regularly, stunned.
"It's kind of concerning that the people that help you everyday would be in danger like this," said Lillian Okpaleke, who works at a nearby business.
"The fact that it was such a violent incident really worries me and it concerns me about the safety of this area that I work in," added Demetria Griffin, one of Okpaleke's co-workers. "Our law enforcement, they're very good at what they do, so hopefully something will happen about this situation."
Anyone with information is asked to call the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office at (813) 247-8200 or Crime Stoppers at (800) 873-TIPS (8477).
Deputies have included the surveillance video it on the agency's YouTube channel:
