Animal lovers in Manatee County are hoping to find a home for a kitten with a rare medical condition.
'Special' the cat was born with a condition that makes his hind legs appear to be backwards. The tendons in his back legs are too short, twisting the knee joints around.
The issue can't be fixed surgically, but it doesn't mean that he can't have a normal life, veterinarians say. Other cats with the condition have thrived.
"These kitties are not in pain," Sarasota vet Dr. Cynthia Juday explained. "They don't seem to know that anything's wrong."
"He can walk fine," temporary foster mom Sue Kolze added. "He walks funny but he plays with the other cats."
Special was picked up by Manatee Animal Services and is now in Kolze's care. But the 6-week-old is still hoping for a permanent home -- probably one without any dogs or other cats who might chase him, Kolze added. He does have a best friend, fellow kitty Murray, who would love to be adopted with him.
