A teenager in Pasco County is charged with battery after investigators say he attacked one of his teachers.
The altercation happened at the AMI Kids Pasco alternative school in New Port Richey.
Investigators say the 13-year-old boy, who is 5' 11" and 240 pounds, put the teacher in a choke hold, and other teachers and students had to pry them apart.
"When you see somebody who needs help, no matter who you are, staff, kids, you jump in and you do what needs to be done, but I think she was very lucky," said Amy Jacques, a victims advocate with the New Port Richey Police Department.
The student was arrested and charged with battery on a school employee.
A spokesperson for AMI said the school is privately-operated and serves as a last-chance to stay in the public school system for kids who have been expelled from other schools.
The 13-year-old will not be allowed back to AMI Kids Pasco.
The Pasco School District refers children to the school, but that is their only involvement, a district spokesperson said.
