A man waving a BB gun in front of a Hillsborough County Elementary School was arrested Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, a deputy working at Terrell Sessums Elementary School heard several children yelling about a man with a gun near the school.
The deputy went and found 24-year-old Dillon Conn walking along the sidewalk in front of the school, waving what appeared to be a black semi auto handgun.
Conn appeared agitated and was holding the gun in a "careless, threatening manner," the sheriff's office said.
The deputy ordered Conn to drop the gun, and at first, he said the deputy would have to shoot him. Conn eventually dropped the gun and the deputy arrested him.
The gun turned out to be a gas-powered BB pistol. The sheriff's office said it did not have a red tip at the end of the barrel that many BB pistols have.
Conn is charged with exhibiting a firearm within 1,000 feet of school property.
