An out-of-control car crashed into an aboveground water main in Seminole early Tuesday afternoon, cutting the water supply to 386 homes and flooding the surrounding area.
It happened around 1:30 at Oakhurst Road and 94th Avenue. Florida Highway Patrol troopers say Katelyn Jane O'Connor lost control of her Ford Focus, hit a street sign, then plowed into the water main, sending water spewing from the pipe.
According to Seminole Fire Rescue, the flooding damaged several homes in the Tamarac neighborhood.
O'Connor, 29, was taken to Largo Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries as well as a possible medical condition, troopers said. She was charged with careless driving as well as driving on a suspended license.
Meanwhile, crews were able to remove the damaged section of pipe and install a temporary bypass, allowing water service to resume to the community.
