TAMPA (FOX 13) -

An Army veteran who saved a woman from a burning car got a thank-you from his congressman Tuesday.

Jim Flaherty was driving to work at Tampa International Airport when a car went off the road, crashed and caught fire.

Flaherty stopped his car and ran to help the injured driver, who was unable to get out on her own.

He and another passerby got her out safely before the car was engulfed in flames.

Tuesday, Congressman Gus Bilirakis presented Flaherty with a framed transcript of remarks he made in Congress thanking Flaherty for his actions.

Flaherty also served 20 years with the New York Police Department and currently works with the TSA.
