A section of South Dale Mabry Highway was closed this morning because of a suspicious package that turned out to be trash.
According to Tampa police, a bomb-sniffing dog alerted on an unattended package at Santiago and Dale Mabry. The view from SkyFOX showed police on foot patrolling the scene around a mailbox and UPS dropbox there.
Police were tipped off by a woman passing by.
"Well with everything that's gone on last week in Boston, it just seemed odd," Laurel Rissey told FOX 13. "So I called it in. Honestly I thought it would be nothing, but when I saw the police, I thought it was something."
After 90 minutes of investigation, police determined the package was just garbage in a box addressed to the Tampa Bay Times.
Bomb squad officers were not immediately sure what caused the dog to alert on the trash.
All lanes of Dale Mabry were open again as of 12:30.
