Two fatal accidents, two schools mourning

It's going to be a tough day for students at two Bay area high schools.

Two of their classmates were killed in separate car accidents, and school district officials tell us grief counselors will be on hand at Northeast High School in St. Petersburg.

Alexia Douglas, 16, was a passenger in a car Friday when police say the driver became distracted, jumped a curb and smashed into a metal guardrail. The driver suffered minor injuries, but Douglas was killed.

A memorial has been set up in her honor.

A separate incident also happened in Lake Wales. Omar Ontiveros, a 17-year-old, was in the back seat of a car when it crashed on Dr. JA Wiltshire Avenue.

Investigators say the driver lost control and slammed into a tree.

Two classmates in the front sear survived with only minor injuries.
