PHILADELPHIA -

A car that crashed into a utility pole in West Philadelphia's Overbrook section early Sunday morning cut power to more than 1,800  customers.

"I  see fire come. Boom! I hear another one Boom!" said resident Henre Bouzy

Those booms were the result of a black Chevy Tahoe that crashed into Bouzy's  duplex at the corner of 64th and Jefferson around 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

Police say the driver of the SUV got out of the car and ran away after the vehicle reportedly sideswiped several cars and took down a utility pole.

The driver abandoned his friend, Dennis Wright, who was in the passenger seat.

" I just  wanted to go home. The guy said he'd take me home and somehow we ended up here," Wright said, referring to the crash. I really don't remember much."

Wright says he was sleeping in the passenger seat for the wild ride that left him with a brace on his leg and clearing his belongings out of his wrecked vehicle.

He told us he and a friend were out partying last night near Center City.

When he had too much to drink, Wright says he turned the keys of his SUV over to his friend.

"He had a little bit to drink,  but he didn't seem like he was that out of it like that. I figured he'd be alright enough to take me home. If that was the case I could have drove myself. It's crazy."

Wright didn't identify his friend but said he wants to figure out why he ran.

PECO says power has been restored to all of the customers impacted by the outage.
