It is a mess along US 27 in Polk County near Frostproof. All lanes in both directions of US 27 remain closed after a nasty semi-truck accident.
It happened around 2:30 this morning in the southbound lanes of US 27. Three semi-trucks were involved but amazingly no one was hurt. We're told all drivers managed to get out safely.
Early investigations show that this started when one of the semi-trucks was stopped alongside the road. The second truck came up from behind and slammed into the first truck.
Polk deputies say a few moments later that's when a third semi-truck did the same thing and the trucks were engulfed in flames.
The fire is out but wreckage is spread across all lanes and crews say it may be hours before the roads re-open.
