A 54-year-old Townsend, Delaware man was the victim who died in Tuesday's fatal crash along I-495, Delaware State Police announced.
According to troopers, 54-year-old Steven Carbone was killed in the two car crash at Edgemoore Road around 3:30 p.m.
According to investigators, a Pontiac Montana was headed north in the left lane of I-495. Troopers say the driver tried to enter the right lane but realized another vehicle was trying to change lanes into the same space.
The driver tried to avoid the car by steering to the left, but lost control and drove into a grass median, striking a guardrail between the northbound and southbound lanes, investigators said.
After hitting the guardrail, troopers say the Pontiac became airborne and landed on top of a Mazda 3, which was driven by Carbone. The Pontiac came to rest on the roof of the Mazda.
Troopers say Carbone was pronounced dead at the scene. No charges have been filed, state police said.
Rain arrives for the second half of the work week. Another fall-like blast of cool weather to follow for the weekend.
Scattered showers are possible tonight as a cold front approaches the area. Otherwise, the best chance for rain will be Thursday afternoon and night where we'll see on and off showers and thunderstorms.
Clouds and showers linger though much of Friday. We may still see a passing shower Saturday. Unseasonably cool air returns this weekend where both days only see high temps in the mid 70s with many of us falling into the 50s at night.
