The Tampa Bay chapter of Swim Across America is raising money for a cancer research, prevention and treatment one stroke at a time.
The non-profit organization is holding its second-annual open water fundraising swim benefiting Moffitt Cancer Center. Last year, it raised more than $100,000, and they're hoping for more this year.
The event is at 8:30 a.m. May 18 at Pier 60 on Clearwater Beach.
Tampa Metro YMCA is teaming up to provide free swimming clinics for participants. In addition, those registered for the event will have free access to the pool of all YMCA locations within Hillsborough County.
"We had over 100 last year, and we've got over 100 registered now," said organizer Craig Cordel. "We're pushing toward 200 about five weeks out from the swim."
