A young boy is still alive despite falling into a pool, thanks to the efforts of his father and paramedics.
According to Palm Harbor Fire Rescue, crews were called to a home on Chatham Drive in response to a report that an 11-month-old boy had drowned in a pool.
The boy's father said the child's grandparents had put him in a walker, and little Kaden managed to roll through a slightly open door, onto the pool deck, and then into the water.
"I ran outside and he was face-down in the pool. Just sitting in the pool, legs out of the walker," a visibly shaken Nicholas Leonardo recalled. "I pulled him out and he was blue all the way to his stomach. He wasn't breathing, he had no pulse, so I performed CPR and as soon as the ambulances got here, he started crying a little bit."
Kaden, who had been born a month premature, was taken to the hospital. Leonardo said he was stable but the family was awaiting results of X-rays on his lungs.
No one was sure how long the boy was actually underwater.
Leonardo said he had learned CPR at a class offered through his job, though he'd never thought he's have to use it.
"You never want to have to experience those feelings," he added. "I can't even look at the pool right now."
