The day before his 18th birthday, Jordan McEwen finally got the gift he had wanted for years. A Lakeland couple, Josh and Katie McEwen, adopted him in a Bartow courtroom packed with family, friends, and loved ones.
"I have always wanted to be part of a family, instead of someone just going along for the ride," he told FOX 13 after a short hearing.
Along with Jordan, the McEwens adopted one of Jordan's brothers, Dawson, 14, and sisters, Ashley, 11. They had already adopted two other of their sisters, Tori, 12, and Shainne, 16.
On top of that, the Mc Ewen's have seven other kids, a combination of adopted, foster, and biological.
That's a grand total of 13.
"When are you going to stop?," we asked Josh, their dad.
"When God tells to stop," he said.
Jordan got adopted just in the nick of time. On Tuesday, he is going to turn 18 and will be ineligible to be adopted.
As for the Mc Ewens, they may not be done yet.
"It has always been in my heart," Katie, the kids' mom told us. "When my husband and I were married, we knew adoption would be part of this. I am living my dream," she said.
