A 37-year-old convicted felon is on the run after he allegedly tried to shoot a Polk County man early Thursday morning.
Jamie Lydell Bibbs of Lake Wales is facing aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge. A warrant was issued for his arrest on Friday by the Lake Wales Police Department.
According to a LWPD report Bibbs, who has served four stints in the state prison system, fired several shots from a handgun in the direction of the victim at approximately 1:20 a.m. The incident occurred on Jewel St.
Investigators say the suspect attempted to lure a 23-year-old man to his vehicle but due to past problems with Bibbs the victim was cautious. The suspect stepped out from behind his car, displayed the weapon and fired as the victim ran away.
Fortunately none of the rounds hit the man. Police were dispatched to the scene where they found several shell casings from a 9-mm handgun.
Because Bibbs is a convicted felon he is not supposed to be in possession of any firearms. His arrest record goes back more than 15 years and includes convictions out of Polk and Manatee counties.
His prior arrests include a variety of charges – child abuse, fraud, grand theft, burglary, forgery and violation of probation.
Bibbs is considered armed and dangerous. If you have any information on his location please contact Detective Bill Raebig with the Lake Wales Police Department at (863) 678-4223 extension 264.
If you wish to remain anonymous call Heartland Crime Stoppers at (800) 226-8477.
