BARTOW (FOX 13) -

Detectives in Bartow are collecting information in an early morning shooting that left one man dead and another in the hospital.

Tommie Devon Johnson Jr., 27, was transported to Lakeland Regional Medical Center just before 4 a.m. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

Kenneth Thornton was taken to Bartow Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to a Bartow Police Department report officers were dispatched to 1155 Britts Lane at 3:45 a.m. in response to a shots fired call. Investigators say two masked men committed the crime.

There is no description of the suspects so far and their motive is not known. Thornton, 34, and Johnson Jr. are Bartow residents the report states and both have extensive arrest records in Polk County.
