Worth it or wasted: Beach renourishment

TREASURE ISLAND (FOX 13) -

The white sand beaches of Florida attract visitors from all over the world, but Tropical Storm Debby washed away a lot of sand on state beaches.

One of those beaches is in Pinellas County, on Treasure Island. It will take approximately 90,000 yards of new sand to make it beautiful again. The total cost is $12 million: $8 million in federal tax dollars, $2 million from the state and $2 million in local funds.

Is that a good expenditure of tax dollars?
