A Lakeland family woke up to their worst nightmare. They found a stranger hovering over their baby's crib.
Dennis and Jennie Meyers heard a strange sound coming from their 16-month old daughter's baby monitor. The shrill shriek wasn't from little Jordyn, it was coming from her 8-year-old sister.
"She was very angry and her voice was shaky," mom Jennie Meyers said Wednesday.
The girls' parents ran into the room to find out what was wrong.
"I came out of the master bedroom and as I rounded the corner to my youngest daughter's bedroom, there was a lady standing over the crib, reaching down into the crib for my daughter," dad Dennis Meyers said.
Jordyn's dad says his instinct took over, and he ran at the woman.
"When I first grabbed her, she started saying, 'It's not what it looks like, it's not what it looks like," Dennis Meyers said.
Polk County Sheriff's Office arrested 31-year old Megan Jones on charges of attempted kidnapping and burglary.
"She actually picked the child up, there was a transfer of her blood from her injuries of breaking into the house on the child. Her explanation to us, after she was arrested was, 'Yes, I picked the baby up.' She didn't take the child. Why? Because dad stopped her," Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said Wednesday.
Deputies believe Jones didn't act alone. Jordyn's parents noticed a man outside of the house when they pushed Jones outside. Judd said his office is currently collecting evidence to charge a possible accomplice.
Meanwhile, Jordyn and Jayden's parents say their two daughters' tiny smiles are melting their hearts, now more than ever.
"I don't think I've put her down at all. I haven't really let her out of my sight since," Jennnie Meyers said.
