Fire crews were back in Lithia Monday, battling another brush fire.
This one sparked in the area around 7242 Lithia Pinecrest Road.
As of 1:45, the 11-acre fire was under control. No homes were in danger.
Friday, crews were called to nearby Fishhawk Ranch to put out a 10-acre fire burning close to homes. That fire, investigators said later, was started by teenagers playing with firecrackers.
Further to the south of the Tampa Bay area, smoke and fog from a brush fire closed Alligator Alley for several hours Monday. The fire was in the Big Cypress National Preserve. The road reopened after 10 a.m.
The drought index in central Florida is higher than normal and officials urge caution with open flames.
