Tripp Halstead back in hospital

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

Tripp Halstead suffered a medical setback on Monday. His family tells FOX 5 he had to be rushed to the emergency room, just three days after finally going home.

FOX 5's Chris Shaw has learned that the 2-year-old was taken to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston by ambulance, and admitted at around 10 a.m. It's not clear what is wrong with Tripp.

Tripp's grandfather, Larry Hughes, told Shaw, "Connie and I were in Tripp's room. He started arching and his blood pressure went up. He had thrown up a couple of times. He had some irregular breathing. His fever was starting to go up."

The family says doctors have taken x-rays, blood work and did ultrasounds on Tripp.

In an update on Monday afternoon, Tripp's mother, Stacy, said that they initially assumed that there was a problem with Tripp's shunt, which relieves pressure on the brain that was put there shortly after his accident. However, doctors found that the shunt was working.

Stacy said that tests showed that Tripp's liver enzymes are "really elevated."

The Winder boy has garnered tremendous support on Facebook ever since he was injured in October. Tripp was critically hurt when a tree limb fell on him outside his Winder day care center.

At a fundraiser on Saturday, Tripp's parents were hopefully that the boy would resume physical therapy soon and begin to make strides in his recovery.

The Halsteads brought Tripp home on Friday, but they said that the move out of the hospital was not made because Tripp had passed a landmark in his recovery, but he had been stable for a number of days and they felt he would be better off at home.

A fundraiser for the Halstead family is being held on Monday at Chick-Fil-A restaurants in Dallas and Hiram. Ten percent of all sales will go to the family. The fundraiser runs until 8 p.m.
