Deputies with the Manatee County Sheriff's Office recovered three stolen vehicles Sunday and made three arrests in the process.
Jacob Jenkins, 28, Paul Sculco, 35, and Amy Melbar, 19, were booked into the Manatee County Jail on grand theft charges. Additional charges against all three are pending.
According to a MCSO report deputies went to 1508 34th Ave. East just after 3 p.m. looking for Jenkins who had an outstanding arrest warrant on a fraud charge.
The suspect was observed running from a nearby residence and attempted to hide behind a car when he saw law enforcement. Sculco was seen pulling out of a driveway in a 1996 green Ford Explorer that was reported stolen by the Palmetto Police Department.
Sculco, who has an extensive criminal background, was removed from the vehicle and placed into custody.
Parked in the driveway of the home where the deputies went to find Jenkins was a red Mercury Grand Marquis also reported stolen by Palmetto PD.
Melbar was behind the wheel of a 1997 Explorer at the same location that was also reported stolen. The ignition of that vehicle had been removed and it had been ‘hot-wired.'
Several keys and titles, most likely from the car lot from which the vehicles were stolen, were found in the pockets of Jenkins and Sculco and in the glove boxes of both Ford Explorers.
Officers with Palmetto PD were contacted and responded to the scene to collect evidence. The stolen vehicles were impounded and transported to the Palmetto Police Station for processing.
The investigation continues.
