No smoke alarms in fatal Riverview fire

RIVERVIEW (FOX 13) -

An elderly man was killed Friday morning inside a Riverview home fire.

It happened at 10323 Grove Road around 3 a.m., and firefighters say when they arrived at the scene, the blaze had engulfed the home.

"At this time, we're at the scene and we don't have any idea how it started," Ronnie Rivera of Hillsborough Fire and Rescue said.

The home is a total loss, and family members have already showed up to the scene. FOX 13's Alcides Segui has confirmed that there were no smoke alarms in the house, and firefighters said that could have saved the man's life.

Firefighters said it took them about 25 minutes to get the fire under control. Officials with TECO are also there because officials say there's a chance they may have to cut the power.

Fire officials tell us the victim's daughter lives next door, and she was the one to call 911.

We do not know the identity of the man killed in the fire.
