TAMPA (FOX 13) -

Tampa police are searching for an armed robber who held up customers at a hair salon Tuesday morning.

He walked into New Creations Dominican Hair Salon on East Hillsborough Avenue wearing a ski mask just before noon. He was armed with a rifle. Police say he demanded the customers' purses and wallets. Investigators say he starting pushing the customers who didn't move fast enough.

Customers and employees of the salon were clearly shaken and declined to speak to FOX 13 Tuesday. Some customers said they were too scared.

Neighboring business owners are on alert.

"It's alarming, but I've taken all the necessary precautions to make sure that my business is secured," said Donnielle Mosquera. "Tomorrow I will not be taking any cash. There will be patrols in the parking lot. Cameras have been adjusted. Doors will be locked at all time."

Police say the robber ran toward nearby apartment complexes. Officers went door to door, searching for him, but didn't find him.

He was wearing a black jacket with red on the front, black pants, and the ski mask. He is about 5 feet 11 inches tall with a thin build.
