Lakeland man shot in the back

LAKELAND (FOX 13) -

Detectives with the Lakeland Police Department are collecting information in a shooting that landed a 22-year-old man in the hospital Friday night.

Kenny Cuyler suffered a gunshot wound to the lower back and was transported to Lakeland Regional Medical Center. His injury is not considering life-threatening.

According to a Lakeland Police Department report officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of West 5th St. just after 8 p.m. in response to a shots fired call.

That's where they found Cuyler lying on the ground injured.

Investigators say the victim was walking with a friend in the area when several black males approached from some bushes near the intersection of Webster Ave. One of the males yelled ‘Kenny' and Cuyler responded.

The injured man told detectives that he started running when he saw the man was armed. Cuyler fell to the ground when he realized hit by gunfire.

He gave officers a detailed description of the men involved in the incident. No suspects have been identified at this time as the investigation continues.
