Man Shoots His Way Into Bank During Robbery

Posted: Updated:

Shattered glass  marks the spot where Abington Police say a masked man  shot his way into the TD Bank at 2900 West Moreland.

Investigators say he opened fire after trying to follow an employee arriving for work inside.

"They attempted to lock the door to prevent him from getting in, explained Deputy Chief John Livingood. "He shot his way into the bank shattering the door."

Investigators say the robber's reign of terror on the bank employees  continued once he strong armed his way inside.

"He  forced employees into the back and  actually drug one employee and at least one more shot fired inside the bank."

Police say fortunately no one was seriously hurt and no money was taken after they say the crook escaped through the back door.

Throughout part of the day the bank remained closed as investigators marked off clues and talked to witnesses.

Police say the robber  made his escape with the help of a getaway driver in a mid-size, black S-U-V with chrome wheels with a license plate that may start with the letters E-R-C.
