A mandatory no-parole sentence has been overturned in the case of a young man who was convicted of abducting and killing a customer at a Detroit-area sandwich shop.

Michigan appeals court judges Kathleen Jansen, E. Thomas Fitzgerald and Kirsten Frank Kelly ruled Friday that Robert Taylor is entitled to a new hearing because the U.S. Supreme Court has struck down mandatory no-parole sentences for murder committed by teenagers.

Taylor was 16 when Matt Landry was abducted outside a Quiznos in Eastpointe in 2009. Landry's body was discovered in a house in Detroit.

When he returns to Macomb County court, Taylor still could get the same life sentence.

The same ruling came down Wednesday for co-defendant Ihab Maslamani, who was 17 when Landry was killed.

A hearing date has yet to be determined. A call to the Macomb County prosecutor's office Friday for comment went unreturned.
