A 45-year-old man is under arrest after hitting a 7-year-old student Wednesday morning in Haines City.
Sheriff's deputies say Glenn McCarthy ignored the flashing stop sign on a school bus at Johnson Avenue and Ellison Parkway around 7:15 a.m.
As he passed in his Dodge Caravan, deputies say Vanessa Perez walked out in front of the vehicle. She was struck and flown several feet in the air.
The good news from Arnold Palmer Children's Hospital is that she is expected to recover. Right now, she's listed in stable condition.
McCarthy has been
charged with willful reckless driving and failing to stop for a school bus. He was booked in the Polk County jail.
