A 20-year-old Wimauma resident was seriously injured early Saturday morning when a man started shooting at the vehicle he was riding in.
Ruben Galvan Jr. underwent surgery and is listed in serious condition at Tampa General Hospital.
According to a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office report deputies were dispatched to a shots fired call in the area when they were diverted to South Bay Hospital in Sun City Center.
Galvan Jr. had been dropped off by several young men driving a black Pontiac Grand Am. He was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Investigators say the victim and his friends where driving through Wimauma when a male standing on a street corner opened fire. It was determined the shooting occurred in front of Galvan Jr.'s residence at 5207 North St.
Shortly after deputies arrived at the hospital his friends returned but they were not in the black Pontiac Grand Am with tinted windows. Deputies are actively looking for that vehicle.
Detectives spoke with the victim and his friends and they are attempting to obtain a suspect description and a possible suspect vehicle.
Galvan Jr. was airlifted from South Bay to TGH.
