Vets save dog shot by arrow

Posted: Updated:

At just a year and a half, Chevy the dog is just like many young K-9s: happy, curious and friendly as can be.

But upon closer inspection, you see the pit bull-boxer mix has endured something no animal should.

"The vet said someone shot your dog with an arrow, and I completely froze," said Chevy's owner Brandon Price.

It all started Monday at Price's home on Pomelo Court, which sits just off State Road 52 in New Port Richey.

"Monday afternoon about 12 o'clock I let my dog out, went to take a shower, jumped back out," said Price.

Although there's a fence that surrounds the entire property, Chevy somehow got out.

"I'm looking for him, looking for him driving around the neighborhood, I can't find him," said Price.

Eight hours later Price found his best friend behind the locked gate of a lot at a trailer park community about a mile away from his home.

"We open it up. I found my dog just bleeding; he was on his death bed," Price said.

He said he rushed him to the animal hospital for care, not knowing what was causing all the bleeding.

"We thought it was barbed wire he got into," said Price.

Once they arrived, he assumed the worst.

"When we were at the hospital, it looked like he knew he was going to die," Price said.

Thankfully, vets were able to save him. When they took out a 4-inch arrow, Price and his girlfriend Courtney McLaughlin were outraged.

"It disgusts me that someone would do it to him, especially for knowing him, he's so friendly," said McLaughlin.

They called police, but at this point, no one knows who shot the dog or how he got behind the locked gate where he was found.

Thankfully, Chevy will be OK.

Now, his owners are hoping police will catch whoever is behind this heinous attack.

"We want the person who did this to do the time that they deserve," said McLaughlin.
