The reflection from a glass door shows what police say was the first incident that led to a high speed police chase.
CAMDEN, N.J. -
Surveillance video released Thursday by the Camden County Prosecutor's Office shows the beginning of what led to a high speed chase that started in New Jersey and ended in Philadelphia.
The video, captured by a camera aimed at the main entrance to the Camden Police Administration Building on Federal Street, records a man stealing a police car in the reflection of a glass door, investigators said. The police car can be seen in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
Blake Bills, 24, is accused of getting into the empty Camden police cruiser just before 10 a.m. while a police officer was standing outside during what started as a traffic stop.
Investigators say the car struck Patrolman Sekou Reid-Bey, who was released from the hospital after suffering a fractured leg.
In the video, several officers are seen running outside after the police cruiser speeds off.
Police accuse Bills of driving around the block in the cruiser before picking up his girlfriend, Shayna Sykes.
Sykes was later arrested in Philadelphia after police say she stole a police car.
"We are extremely fortunate that Officer Sekou Reid-Bey was not killed during this incident," Camden Police Chief Scott Thomson said in a statement.
"Immobilized from his injuries and in excruciating pain, he still managed to radio for assistance."
Both Bills and Sykes face numerous charges in Camden and Philadelphia.

It feels like summer out there. We're expecting milder temperatures than yesterday: highs in the mid 80s. Just like summer, it'll be humid, with a chance of a few spotty showers during the day.
This pattern stays in place until Thursday, when strong thunderstorms usher in cooler air for the holiday weekend.
