NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A dolphin first spotted earlier in the week is surfacing in the waters of the East River.

The marine mammal which is normally found in shallower waters was first spotted Wednesday morning off the FDR Drive and E. 96th St. in Manhattan.

The Riverhead Foundation has been monitoring the bottlenose dolphin which does not appear to be injured.

Its curved mouth could be seen rising out of the water from time to time.

Earlier this week, the mammal appeared to be making its way out of Manhattan and towards Queens.

It also reportedly made its way out to sea but later returned to the East River.

The average size of a dolphin is 10-14 feet; and the average weight is more than 1,000 lbs., according to National Geographic.
