Additional charges have been filed against a Hillsborough County man following a shooting Saturday night at a Tampa apartment complex.
Mikeil Terrell Royal, 20, was already on probation for a previous aggravated battery conviction at the time of this incident. He is being held without bond at the Hillsborough County Jail.
Royal is facing one count of shooting into an occupied dwelling, one count of shooting into an unoccupied conveyance, one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, one count of discharging a firearm in public and one count of resisting arrest.
Because of the arrest his probation was violated.
According to a Tampa Police Department report Royal got into a verbal argument with his mother at the Tampa Park Apartments just after 8 p.m.
The suspect became frustrated and allegedly fired several rounds from a handgun into the air. Several bystanders intervened and Royal fired several shots in their direction, striking an unoccupied vehicle at 1710 Simon Court.
One of the bystanders was also armed and fired several shots at the suspect but he was not hit.
TPD Sergeant L. Houston was holding her squad's roll call near the complex when the officers heard gunfire. The entire squad responded to the location and quickly developed a description of the suspect.
A short time later Royal's vehicle was observed in front of a parking garage near the intersection of North 13th St. and East 9th Ave. The suspect exited the vehicle and ran into the garage. His vehicle was recovered with the weapon still inside.
A perimeter was set up around the garage and Royal was eventually apprehended and placed into custody. Detectives do not know the identity of the person who fired at Royal. Fortunately nobody was injured.
Royal is no stranger to law enforcement in the area. He's been arrested on four previous occasions since 2010 on a variety of charges including cocaine possession, domestic battery and aggravated battery.
