A 36-year-old Tampa man is facing a slew of charges stemming from a pawn shop robbery that occurred early Friday morning.
Alexander Escarraman Enchauteg was booked into the Hillsborough County Jail where he is being held without bond. Approximately $300,000 worth of jewelry and $25,000 cash stolen during the alleged crime were found in his vehicle.
According to a Tampa Police Department report the incident occurred just before 9:30 a.m. at the Value Pawn location at 5123 North Nebraska Ave. A suspect wearing large sunglasses and a hooded sweatshirt armed with a handgun entered the store as it opened for business.
He tied the hands of a male employee and left him in a back office. He then forced a female employee to open the safe at gunpoint.
The suspect took the cash and jewelry and fled the scene on foot. A search of the area was conducted with assistance from K-9 and air service units but they were unable to locate the perpetrator.
Through witness statements investigators identified a possible suspect and set up surveillance on a home of a female with ties to Enchauteg.
A short time later the unidentified woman left the residence with two suitcases. Detectives followed her to the Seminole Hard Rock Casino where she met up with Enchauteg and another man.
He was arrested by TPD officers with assistance from officers with the Seminole Police Department.
In addition to the cash and jewelry taken from the pawn shop investigators also found a gun and backpack that may have been used during the commission of the crime.
Possible charges are pending against the female – a former Value Pawn employee – and the other man.
Enchauteg is facing one count of armed robbery with a firearm, one count of armed kidnapping with a firearm and violation of probation charge.
Additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
