Last-minute spring break deals

TAMPA (FOX 13) -

Vacation prices always bounce around, but this is peak season.

"Spring break tends to be one of the most expensive times to go," stated Vicky Evans of AAA Travel

But don't give up, procrastinators. Evans says we can still do some fairly inexpensive sightseeing.

She says: consider cruises. For families, sailing is a fantastic, everything's included deal.

"All your food, all your entertainment is included. Room service is included, it's just really a great value."

Some Caribbean cruises still have discount rooms this spring break. The $499 a week is per person, but still "a very good deal," Evans said.

Airfare's sky high. But you don't have to take off to settle down. Panama City says, 'motor on up.'

"It's a lot more laid back here," said Susan Estler of Panama City Beach.

Panama City attracts hard partying college kids every spring break. But the visitor's bureau assured us everyone else can find refuge from the infamous rave.

"You can actually be in Panama City Beach and not even know the spring breakers are here," Estler insisted.

If you drive, don't leave home without a hotel reservation. Leaving lodging to chance could lead you to learning there's truly no room at the inn.

"You could at least see what space is available before you hop in the car," Evans offered.

Once you're at the front desk, do your best for a rate reduction. Your auto club, alumni association, employer -- anything to save a buck.

"They're going to give you whatever rate they want to until you say you qualify for some other rate," Evans said.

Do explore package deals, like those that include theme park tickets. Bundles can cut costs and offer perks, like an upgraded room, a drink by the pool, or maybe a simple beach chair. That's a $25 win on Clearwater Beach.

Don't be surprised if this spring break's pricey.

"If you're looking for a value, it's probably a little late for this year," Evans warned.

Next year, plan your trip early.

"The earlier you book, the better your price generally is," she added. "You can book 11 months ahead of the date that you want."

Translation: Plot next spring break right after this spring break.

And in the meantime, don't forget to relax.
