Shopaholics beware: A new, chic wave of consignment stores is popping up in the Bay Area.
High-fashion labels are being offered at a bargain, thanks to a new trend in discount shopping: designer consigners.
"I like bargains myself. I think it's fun, the hunt to find something different at a great price," said Juli Halifax, who owns Fresh Threads on S. Dale Mabry.
Most of the items in Fresh Threads are discounted about 30 to 40 percent off the designer's retail price. Halifax says some of the popular brands fly off the racks as soon as they come in.
"There are certain brands that sell within a day, within hours," she said.
It's a similar story at designer consignment shop Mosh Posh, on S. Howard Avenue. New and gently-used designer handbags, shoes, and clothing sells off the perfectly manicured shelves as soon as they come in.
"We get several hundred new items in every week. So our inventory's always changing," owner Lauren Basil said Wednesday.
The clothes come directly from local client's closets, sometimes with the tags still on.
While some of the styles are still pricey, it's a deep discount from the designers'. Basil says it's a chance to hone in on high fashion at a fraction of the price.
"It's just so fun to see the things that come in and the things that go out and people are so excited about their finds," Basil said.
Both Fresh Threads and Mosh Posh do a lot of their business online and on social media. Much of their merchandise is sold to customers across the country.
