BELLEVILLE, Mich. (WJBK) -

Despite his young age, 6 year-old Evan Echols has already experienced three brushes with death.

The very likeable little man from Belleville lives with a severe form of Epilepsy.

On three separate occasions, he actually stopped breathing as a result of his uncontrollable seizures, but was thankfully revived.

His parents Ed and Lisa do all they can to make Evan's life as comfortable and normal as possible, and together with other family members, they've organized a fundraising campaign to help raise $12,500 for an assistance dog.

It's called Evan's Cause.

The actual cost of the Seizure response dog is $25,000, but half of the cost is covered by the Great Lakes Assistance Dogs program. The family must come up with the other half.

Fox 2 was at a benefit dinner Wednesday night at the Texas Roadhouse in Westland. 10 percent of every bill Wednesday was donated to Evan's Cause.

The next event will take place April 19 at Woodland Lanes in Plymouth, located at 33775 Plymouth Road.

$25 buys 3 games of 9 pin no-tap bowling and shoe rental, plus 2 slices of pizza and unlimited pop. The cost for non-bowlers is $10.

Then on May 4, supporters of Evan's Cause will meet at City Hall in Garden City at 12 noon, and board a deluxe Motor coach bound for the Firekeepers Casino in Battle Creek.

Beer, water and pop will be served on the bus as it heads to Battle Creek.

Firekeepers Casino has 2,700 of the latest slot and video poker games, hand dealt table games including blackjack, craps, roulette and a live poker room.

The bus will depart for Garden City at 7:30 p.m. The cost is $35, and all money earned will go towards Evan's Cause.

Garden City City Hall is located at 6000 Middlebelt Road.
