County approves $1.3 million for public restroom

SARASOTA (FOX 13) -

County commissioners have approved $1.3 million for a public restroom at South Lido Beach park

Commissioners voted 3-1 in favor of the project, which we reported on back in February. Despite public outcry, Sarasota County will move forward with the plan.

It's not the first of ambitious architectural beach projects in the area, and the same firm building this bathroom has built facilities in Englewood and Venice.

Officials say the actual cost of construction will be around $800,000, while the other money is being used for the architect and public works improvements.

Commissioners also discussed hiring an architect on staff at the meeting. In this case, it could have saved them $100,000 of public money.
